64 in Houston
Lyrics
I wrote these lyrics about ten years ago while hanging out with an opossum and several beers on the back porch of my then recently purchased house. I heard this in a similar style to the song “The Weight” by The Band when I wrote it.

64 in Houston, and it's late tonight
Moths are flying into a dim porch light
I've had too many cigarettes, and I know it isn't right
The end is out there, but it’s not in sight
I hear cars on the freeway, they let me know I'm not alone
The only one awake now in this happy home
I ponder the universe God, and what we are
Take another drag... Wish upon a star
(Chorus)
I'm not trying to write something profound
All I know about is the shit I've been around
But sometimes the quiet is louder than any other sound
These are the moments when your soul can be unbound
Truth can be found
Run it to ground
I don't recognize my life before
It feels like forever since I closed that door
I just don't worry about what's behind it anymore
But it's a good thing to remember all before
It makes me thankful, makes me humble, makes me hungry for more
A message from an old friend and another sip of beer.
God, it’s been a long, hard road to get me here.
Into the light of hope, out of the grip of fear.
There's hope out there, and there's hope within.
I'm willing, I'm able... Let it all begin.
(Chorus)
I'm not trying to write something profound
All I know about is the shit I've been around
But sometimes the quiet is louder than any other sound
These are the moments when your soul can be unbound
Truth can be found
Run it to ground
Let me say, my friend, I've found my way
I've gotten what I wanted, and it didn't always pay
But that's just the struggle that we all must face
Don't give up, and you'll find your happy place
(Chorus)
I'm not trying to write something profound
All I know about is the shit I've been around
But sometimes the quiet is louder than any other sound
These are the moments when your soul can be unbound
Truth can be found
Run it to ground
